The Waterloo Public Library Board is excited to announce that Kelly Kipfer has been selected as the library’s new Chief Executive Officer, effective August 29th, 2022.
Kipfer joined the Waterloo Public Library (WPL) in June 2013 as the Manager, Community Engagement & Children’s Services. Her exceptional leadership skills, visionary mindset and dedication to providing innovative programs, services and technology have made her a valued member of the library’s senior management team.
“The Board is thrilled with what Kelly brings to this leadership role – her extensive experience with the Waterloo Public Library, a track record of successful community partnerships, and a demonstrated commitment to creating a library system for all - will serve us and the community well, moving into the future,” says Waterloo Public Library Board Chair, Karen Coviello.
“WPL is an incredible organization full of brilliant staff who work hard to make the library the community asset it is. It is a genuine privilege to be given the opportunity to lead this outstanding team. Libraries are meant to be inclusive and accessible, while their staff build communities of people who read and learn for life. I am so excited for the endless possibilities waiting for us and can't wait to get started,” says Kipfer.
Kipfer is replacing Laurie Clarke, who is retiring in June 2022 after 12 years as Waterloo Public Library’s CEO.
“This is an exciting time in the City of Waterloo – Laurie Clarke led the Waterloo Public Library through a time of growth and transformation, positioning our library system as an integral part of our vibrant and growing community. Our future is bright - Kelly Kipfer’s vision for a welcoming, inclusive, and dynamic public library for everyone will build upon this legacy of leadership and inspire us all, for years to come,” adds Coviello.
