The International Day of Women and Girls in Science is an annual observance adopted by the United Nations General Assembly to promote the full and equal access and participation of women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields.
A significant gender gap has persisted throughout the years at all levels of science, technology, engineering and mathematics disciplines all over the world. Even though women have made tremendous progress towards increasing their participation in higher education, they are still under-represented in these fields.
The observance of this day aims to challenge gender stereotypes, promote role models that encourage girls to choose science, support the advancement of women in science, and cultivate working environments that nurture the talents of women.
