UPDATE: Our Seed Library is now over for the 2024 growing season. Please check our news stories and Get Growing page in Spring 2025 for updates.
UPDATE: Our Seed Library has been re-located to the Main Library for the remainder of the season. There are still some packets of various types of seeds available for customers to take, plant and enjoy. There is no longer a limit on the number of seed packets per household.
Our Seed Library is an opportunity for customers to take seeds home and grow their very own vegetables, fruits, herbs and flowers. There will be a limited number of seed packets available at all locations, with the full selection of seeds in the Seed Library available at the Eastside Branch. Seed packets will be limited to 2 per household and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
All of our seeds were purchased from the Ontario Seed Company (OSC). Each seed packet comes with a label that includes the seed name, planting instructions, seed number and the Ontario Seed Company website link, so that customers can easily access planting, germination, and care instructions.
Get Growing
A seed library supports vital discussions on environmental literacy, food literacy, and sustainability, providing a tangible connection to these essential topics through planting and gardening. Not only will seeds from our Seed Library be available to the public, but we are also using these seeds in other Get Growing initiatives and teaching opportunities. Seeds from the Seed Library will be used to help plant our new Naturespace garden boxes during our upcoming Roots & Shoots event and to replenish food stock in our grow towers (available at the Eastside Branch).
